2). Wall-E

This CGI feature film is a kid favorite that tells the story of the last robot left on earth, who falls in love with a “sleek” probe sent back to earth for a scanning mission. The two take on outer space adventures across the galaxy. Not only is this a great space movie, but it presents plenty of thought-provoking moments as it showcases Earth’s possible future.

3). Space Buddies

Dogs + space = movie heaven for kids! This astronaut movie stars golden retrievers who suit up to launch into space. The Disney magic and fun storyline of this movie makes for a fun family film.

4). Space Chimps

Ah, yes, another film with animals going to into space. Space Chimps is about the grandson of Ham (the first chimpanzee to go into outer space), and other chimps who go into outer space to explore alien life. This silly space opera is full of adorable animated chimps experiencing some pretty epic adventures.

5). Astro Kid

A young boy gets separated from his mom and dad after their space ship gets destroyed. His spare capsule lands on an unexplored planet where he has to survive strange creatures with the help of a funny robot, of course! This new film is full of fun creatures, silly lines, and makes for a good intro to sci-fi films for young kids.

5 Best Space Movies of All Time (For Adults)

1). Interstellar

This film showcases Earth’s rendering of the uninhabitable future. A NASA physicist is working on plans to save mankind by transporting Earth's population to a new home via a wormhole. So, a former NASA pilot (played by Matthew Mcconaughey) and researchers, are sent to test which of three planets could be mankind's new home. This is a brainy yet emotional film that will absolutely have you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

2). Gravity

When a medical engineer on her first shuttle mission and veteran astronaut are sent on a routine space walk, disaster strikes. Their shuttle is destroyed, leaving the two stranded in space with no hope of being rescued. Ultimately, the characters realize that the only way to get back to planet Earth is to venture deeper into space. With Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as the stars of this film, you know it will be a great one. But beware. This movie heavily induces anxiety!

 3). Apollo 13

This film stars Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton and is based on the events of the Apollo 13 lunar mission. However when technical problems start to occur,  tensions arise within the crew as the astronauts’ safety and survival become threatened . . . “Houston, we have a problem.” This is a classic space film, so if you haven’t watched it, then get to it!

 4). The Martian

After being presumed dead from enduring a fierce storm on Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon), is left behind by his crew mates. The stranded Astronaut perseveres by finding innovative ways to survive with limited supplies. On Earth, members of NASA and international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home. This film is an excellent science-fiction thriller!

5). Hidden Figures

Three brilliant African-American women at NASA are the mathematicians behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit in the 1960s. Not only does this movie shed light on an important part of NASA’s history, but it also portrays some incredible acting by Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe. An all around fantastic film!
