Astronomy enthusiasts and casual stargazers alike are in for a treat on the night of June 3, 2024, as a rare and mesmerizing celestial event will unfold in the night sky: a Parade of Planets. This stunning alignment of planets offers a unique opportunity to witness the beauty of our solar system in a single, awe-inspiring view. And what better way to enjoy this celestial show than with a delicious treat? Grab your Astronaut Ice Cream and get ready for an unforgettable night under the stars.

What is the Parade of Planets?
A Parade of Planets, also known as a planetary alignment, occurs when multiple planets in our solar system appear to line up in the sky from our perspective on Earth. On June 3, 2024, six planets – Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus – will align in a graceful arc across the early dawn sky. This rare event provides a perfect chance to see Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter with the naked eye and grab your binoculars or telescope to take peak at Neptune and Uranus.

Best Viewing Times:
Late in the night, the first planets to come up will be Saturn and Neptune, followed by Mars, and then, in the early dawn sky, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mercury will start to appear above the horizon. So star up LATE and wake up early to see the show.

We recommend downloading a fun app like Sky Tonight. Starwalk has a wonderful post on June's alignment and one's coming up! Visit here>

How to Spot the Planets:

  • Mercury: Closest to the horizon and often the trickiest to see due to its proximity to the sun.
  • Mars: Look for its distinct reddish hue.
  • Jupiter: The largest planet, shining brightly high in the sky.
  • Saturn: Look for the yellowish looking planet among the stars.
  • Uranus: It appears as a small, pale blue or greenish-blue disc. You will need binoculars for this planet.
  • Neptune: Identified by its golden glow, sitting farther to the east. You will need a telescope of binoculars for this one.
